Erico Plaster Ring / Mud Ring (Commercial Grade).
The Erico Plaster Ring, also called a mud ring, eliminates the need for an electrical box when installing low voltage Class 2 wiring. To install this unit into a wall place the plaster ring on the wall where you need it, it’s a good idea to measure where the rest of the wall plates are situated on the wall and mimic this height for uniformity, and mark each corner with your drywall saw. The first cut should be done laterally because if you run into a stud you can just go back the other direction; if you were to cut vertically first then cut laterally you would have to start all over and end up with an ugly saw mark on the wall. After you have cut out the hole for the mud ring just place it in and bend the tabs back into the wall and then cinch down the tabs with a pair of pliers to make sure it stays in place.
