Jameson Mini Duct Hunter

Connecting a signal transmitter to the Duct Hunter™ energizes the unit with a specific frequency. When the energized Duct Hunter™ rod is pushed into pipe, the signal radiates outward to the surface. A signal receiver detects the frequency applied to the Duct Hunter™ , allowing the pipe to be traced inside walls, floors or underground. The Mini Duct Hunter Traceable Rodder fish tape by Jameson features a copper trace wire in the rod for tracing or mapping inside smaller conduit or pipes. The flexible rod makes it ideal for plumbing applications and because of its thinner diameter it is able to have a bend radius of 2.5 inches. The Jameson Mini Duct Hunter includes an accessory kit including a flexible leader to easily maneuver tight corners, an end ferrule, splice ferrule, pulling eye, and adhesive and emery cloth. With a smooth fiberglass exterior the rod can easily slide past crowded conduit or pipe and will never rust.

Available in Lengths of 100ft, 150ft, 200ft, 250ft, and 300ft.

Locates sewer laterals or any other type of pipe. The Mini Duct Hunter™ traces inside smaller conduit (1/2” to 4”) for locating fiber optic cable or for plumbing applications.

General Information:

The Mini Duct Hunter™ 3/16” traceable fiberglass conduit rodder is available with 100’ to 300’ of highly visible 3/16” outside diameter fiberglass duct rod with a 1/8” fiberglass core rod and 22 AWG solid copper wire. Multi-positional unit is designed for use in conduit and/or pipe 1/2” to 1-1/2” inside diameter.

• The minimum bending radius of the Mini Duct Hunter™ rod is 3”. Do not attempt to bend beyond the recommended radius.

• Keep secure footing. Protect yourself from the possibility of falling should the pulling eye move suddenly or separate from rod.

• Check for damage prior to using rod. Cracks, gouges, nicks, white stress marks on jacket or sharp bends will weaken rod. Injury could result if rod breaks while being pulled.

• Do not use slip joint pliers, locking pliers or powered pulling equipment on rod. Damage to rod may occur.

• Keep rod wound inside reel when not in use to protect rod from damage and to prevent trip - ping.

• Do not force a pull that is hung up. Remove wires and check for kinks or obstructions.

• Avoid pulling rod over sharp edges as damage to the rod may result.

• Wear safety glasses or protective eye shields and a hard hat when assembling, operating, transporting or maintaining rodding device.

• Keep work area free of debris. The work area should provide good footing.

• When coiled, the rod is like a large clock spring. Do not attempt to use rod without an en - closing reel. Out-of-control rod can whip around and cause damage to personnel or property.

• Keep rod clean. While rod is made from non-conductive materials, some contaminants (including water) which may collect on rod surface can conduct electricity.

MINI DUCT HUNTER OPERATION:

1. Operates in upright or horizontal position. If used in horizontal position, safety roller guides and brake control handle should be on top side.

2. Set drag brake to highest amount of drag.

3. Insert end of fiberglass rod through the eyelet bolt. This ensures duct rod will be safely contained while working with it.

4. Release pressure on drag brake handle so rod will begin to slowly payout from canister.

5. Brake may be set for constant drag on payout of rod. The constant drag makes one-man operation possible. Fully tightening brake handle stops payout of rod. For constant drag and controlled payout, set brake handle where canister turns only as you pull out rod.

6. Ensure end of duct rod is tightly attached to canister.

7. Pay out rod into underground facility. Lock brake handle.

8. Attach signal output lead from your transmitter to contact lug on outside of canister. Attach ground lead to desired ground mechanism.

9. Follow your transmitter’s operating instructions to apply the desired signal frequency to the rod.*

10. Use your receiver to trace the path of the rod following the instructions of your receiver.

11. If further rod payout is required, detach transmitter output lead, loosen drag brake and pay out more rod. Lock brake handle and re-attach transmitter output lead. 12. When recoiling rod, detach transmitter lead, loosen drag brake and push rod back onto canister.
